Our church was started by a few people with a desire to reach the Coon Rapids area with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. In 1953 there was only one church in the rapidly growing city of Coon Rapids. Five families began meeting in homes for Bible study and prayer. The Evangelical Free Church of America decided to subsidize the new church.

A gathering of 35 men, women and children held the first Sunday school and church service in the L.O.Jacob Elementary School on October 25, 1953. Land was purchased and construction of a permanent building on Ibis Street began that same year. The first pastor was called and the first service was held in the new building on New Years Eve, 1953. There were 15 charter members.

By 1956, weekly attendance was 150 and an addition was made to the original building.

A large sanctuary was added in 1966 and a Christian Education wing was built in 1983.

By the 1990's the church had again outgrown its facilities and began looking for ways to expand to accommodate the need for more space. A parcel of land was purchased on the corner of Main Street and Coon Creek Boulevard and construction began in 1999. The new building, where we currently meet, was dedicated in November of 2000.

The Lord has blessed the work and vision of those few who started the church nearly 50 years ago. Many have come to know the Savior and grown closer to Christ. We pray that the name of Jesus Christ will continue to be glorified through the Coon Rapids Evangelical Free Church.
